About Bauxite
Bauxite, the primary source of aluminum, is a sedimentary rock composed mainly of aluminum oxides and hydroxides, along with other minerals such as iron oxides and silica. Formed through weathering and erosion of aluminum-rich rocks over millions of years, bauxite emerges as a vital natural resource essential for the production of aluminum, one of the most widely used metals in modern industry.
Applications of Bauxite
Aluminum Production: Bauxite serves as the primary source of aluminum, with over 90% of the world’s aluminum production derived from bauxite ores. Through a process known as the Bayer process, bauxite is refined into alumina (aluminum oxide), which is then smelted using electrolysis to extract pure aluminum metal.
